A high-level and well-attended Honhaar Scholarship Cheque Distribution Ceremony was held at Musharraf Hall KIU. The entire university campus was appropriately decorated and publicized for the occasion, reflecting the significance of the event. More than 600 participants, including distinguished guests, students, parents, faculty members and university officials, attended the ceremony. The ceremony was attended by Punjab Minister for Education Rana Sikandar Hayat as the Chief Guest, Leader of the Opposition Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman, Deputy Speaker Malik Kifayat ur Rehman, GB Minister for Education Aman Ali Amir, KIU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Abdul Razzaq, members of the GB Assembly, university officials, faculty members, students and parents. The event was jointly organized by the Financial Aid Office and the Provost Office KIU. Speaking as the Chief Guest, Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat, on the special directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, announced several important initiatives for the students of Gilgit-Baltistan. These include increasing the number of Honhaar Scholarships for GB students to 1,000, inclusion of GB students in the Punjab Laptop Scheme, construction of a girls' hostel and common room at KIU, provision of additional buses for the university, and 1,000 free Google certification courses for students of Gilgit-Baltistan. Rana Sikandar Hayat emphasized the importance of education and youth development, stating that students have a vital role in the progress and development of the country. He highly appreciated the Vice Chancellor, university administration, and the officials responsible for the excellent arrangements and successful organization of the high-level event. At the conclusion of the formal session, the Chief Guest spent considerable time interacting directly with the students. He listened to their concerns, encouraged them to focus on their education and professional development and expressed his commitment to providing greater educational opportunities and support to the youth of Gilgit-Baltistan. Speaking on the occasion, Leader of the Opposition in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman appreciated the inclusion of GB students in the Honhaar Scholarship Program and termed it an important step towards providing greater educational opportunities to talented students of the region. In his opening remarks, KIU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Abdul Razzaq highlighted the exceptional potential and capabilities of students from Gilgit-Baltistan. He emphasized that, with adequate resources, financial support, and opportunities, the youth of the region can excel at national and international levels. He also requested special support for KIU in the areas of scholarships, infrastructure development, transportation, and other facilities for students. During the ceremony, Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat and other distinguished guests distributed scholarship cheques among the selected students. On the occasion, the Vice Chancellor, KIU, Prof. Dr. Abdul Razzaq, presented traditional local souvenirs, including a local cap and shawl, to Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat and Director, Punjab Higher Education Commission, Mr. Muhammad Majid Mustafa Khan.
